Mochi Making Party

Our annual Mochi Making Party was held in the yard of Kazenoko Baby Home. The purpose of having this event was to introduce and enjoy our tradition of welcoming in the new year. The oldest children held the pestle and pounded the steamed mochi rice. Children of other ages from Kazenoko Hoikuen and Kazenoko Baby Home were watching them and cheering. Some fathers also helped to pound the mochi. The children were glued to their vigorous figures! The mothers helped to carefully round the pounded mochi. We ate fresh mochi for lunch. Many of the children were fascinated by its soft texture. Parents and children from Kazenoko Hiroba (Kazenoko Parenting Support Community Center) also came to see this event this year. These days we have less opportunity to pound mochi, so we hope to continue to treasure and enjoy this traditional event together.

First, the president gave a demonstration.
