A Child's Growth and Clothes
From “Kazenoko Letter” No.435 - April 2014

For the six years from the time a child is born to school-age, the expense of raising them is quite high even though we are usually not aware of it.

It can become quite expensive to buy children’s clothes, shoes, hats, buggies, beds and toys. If you go to a specialized shop for children, the price of goods is not much different from those of an adult.

Clothes and shoes in particular won’t fit after a couple of months because of the child's growth. Clothes and shoes which don’t fit anymore are still pretty new, but they can’t be worn.

It’s such a waste. What do people who raise children do about this? People used to exchange things between relatives or help each other among friends. Even now, some people still do this, but most people probably don’t know enough people because of the declining birthrate and trend toward a nuclear family.

Activities that support this are in demand these days. Guardians share similar lifestyles, so it will be good to share their wisdom with each other.

30 children graduated this March and entered into elementary school this April. It will be wonderful to come up with a tradition for graduates’ clothes, toys and picture books to be delivered to the younger children.

When I talked about this with the Fathers’ Group, they showed a lot of interest in this idea and wanted to consider making it happen. If we can do this as an exchange party, I'm sure many people will appreciate it.
