The Person Who Saw The Wind
From “Kazenoko Letter” No.421 - February 2013

There are two daycare centers for adults with intellectual disabilities in our social welfare corporation, and almost 100 people go there every day.

There is a song; a song created at our center that we sing together when the chance arises. The title of this song is “The Person Who Saw the Wind”. People outside of our centers don’t know the song, but staff in our corporation know it well and sing it at events. We sang the song together at the New Year’s Party on January 20th.

The songwriter is Masayo Zenjo, the ex-executive director of Suisen no Ie, a daycare service center for the elderly. The composer is Kiyoshi Fukumoto, a blind musician who comes to our center to teach singing. It’s a beautiful melody.

The meaning of this song is to appeal "Living together”. People with disabilities are sensitive about being looked at strangely in daily life. Their feelings and emotions are no different to people without disabilities, even if they cannot express it in words and communicate well. This song describes their feelings and wishes.

Please listen to this song once when you have a chance and try to remember it.

“The Person Who Saw the Wind”
Lyrics by Masayo Zenjo Music by Kiyoshi Fukumoto

1. People say there is no one who has seen the wind, but we know its kindness.
“Good morning” on a street corner, “Have a good day” said with a bright smile.
Carried by the wind, carried by the wind
  Our feelings for you
We want to convey. Thank you.
  Thank you for supporting life

2. People say there is no one who has seen the wind, but I know it’s severe.
A look of encouragement to believe in tomorrow and grow up stronger.
※Carried by the wind, carried by the wind
My feelings for my father and mother
I want to convey. Thank you.
Thank you for the power to live
  ※ Repeat
